Sound Installation
Akustik-iO is an interactive sound installation that produces various industrial sounds through resonance of found objects with vibration motors. It is designed under the “Purposeless Machines“ program of the Istanbul Modern Museum as a case study for interdisciplinary artistic approaches inspiring from engineering.
Akustik-iO - Sound Design Program aims to share the potential of this sound installation through a creative sound production program. Young music producers were invited to experiment with the installation at Istanbul Modern to create new music compositions.
The project, which enables the production of various creative sound compositions, stands out as an original example of increasing artistic creativity through the production process. With the support of Istanbul Modern Studio STEAM’s education coordinators, sound artists used the sound installation “Acoustic -iO” designed by Bilal Yılmaz within the scope of “Purposeless Machines“ to produce and record industrial sounds created by vibration motors and the resonance of found objects. Combining the recordings with their musical background, these sound compositions created by the sound artists for the project offer references to how an inspiring museum experience can transform, the possibilities provided by the interaction of creative actors, and the possibilities of interdisciplinary productions.
